MOVE ASIDE
Sometimes life is more bizarre than the movies … and it seems even more ridiculous too.
This is the transcript of an ACTUAL radio conversation between a US naval ship and Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. This Radio conversation was released by the Chief of Naval Operations.
I, however, obtained my copy from a couple of friends at work who operated both HAM and CB radio systems for rescue missions. They told me they picked it up off the airwaves a few days before. Personally I believe the first copy ~ time has a way of exaggerating true facts and the last version I only just received ~ seven years after the fact. See how much has been added in…
******************
Americans: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.
Canadians: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South.
Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
Canadians: No I say again, divert YOUR course.
Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER U.S.S. MISSOURI, WE ARE A LARGE WARSHIP OF THE U.S.NAVY. DIVERT YOUR COURSE NOW!
Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.
Another version I heard of this same incident had all facts the same except for the 2nd last line:
Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER U.S.S. LINCOLN, WE ARE THE SECOND LARGEST WARSHIP IN THE UNITED STATES’ ATLANTIC FLEET, WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE CARRIERS, THREE WARSHIPS AND SEVERAL OTHER ASSAULT VEHICLES. I SAY AGAIN DIVERT YOUR COURSE NOW OR YOU WILL SUFFER REPERCUSSIONS OF A MOST SEVERE KIND.
